NOBLE NEWS #67 - Marvelle Reporter

Hi - we are in our new house! Nickee came and helped us move. Brad went to Great Falls to pick her up. We drove into Lethbridge and picked her up. It was great!

On Wednesday the 13th we had our appliances delivered. Then on Friday Fernie Carthage and Storage delivered our furniture and so on. They just parked the semi-trailer at the front of our house and the men put our furniture in our house by walking into the house. It was great.

Leona came down on my birthday and we went out to lunch at Submarine. You can all come and visit us now as we have all the amenties on. Electric, water, gas, etc. We have an extra bedroom in the basement and have a nice bathroom down there too. Be sure and come. That is what it is for.

On Sunday we went into Brads' for supper. There were alot of people there. Lester Ann and Gayle came, Della, Valerie and Kaytee came for supper. It was great. Then on Wednsday we took Nickee down to Great Falls again to catch her plane back to her family. We stayed over night in Great Falls. It was very nice.

It is raining raining here today. We are to go to conference tonight. See you another time. We love you all.

Victoria Day Weekend

I hope everyone in the family had a good weekend. Marvelle & Clifford moved into their new house to make it their home. I hope you got moved in and settled.

Colleen and all the girls went to L.A. shopping. How was that girls???

Paula and I went shopping in Kalispell. It was nice to get away and we shopped till we dropped, no we still had some energy left to drive home safely. We had a good trip. We went down on Saturday morning, hit Target, K-Mart and Shopko on Saturday. Then Sunday we hit Target, Shopko, Walmart and Jo-Anne's Fabric. I bought broadcloth for $1.49 per yard, so I bought 9 yards to finish my quilt for Brian and Annette, to take with us to Australia. Paula and I found some good bargains, but were told this next weekend there will be better sales, as it is their American Memorial Holiday this weekend. Paula enjoyed being away without hubby and the kids. She found it too quiet in the room and she slept well -- too well -- don't let her tell you she doesn't snore, cause she does. The walls were rocking. We stayed at the Red Lion right next to the Pennies mall. The have renovated the whole hotel and made a courtyard in the middle that is outside and in the centre they have a pond with some fish in it with a walking bridge across it and a gas fire pit that people can go out and sit at night around the fire. Then in the corner of the courtyard was the hot tub with doors going into the indoor pool We went for a swim and it was a nice pool. Sunday night we sat out at the fire till 11 pm. We met some people from Lethbridge and Coaldale.

The have a new IHOP in Kallispell so we ate there most of the time. It is really good. For those of you who have not been there it is International House of Pancakes and they have really good food. I also heard they have a new steak house called Dave's Barbeque and you have to be really hungry to eat there, the dishes are so big. We also had supper on Sunday night at Sizzlers. It hasn't changed at all, same old, same old. It was good food and reasonable too.

Kalispell has really grown. The new Target, Home Depot, Ross Dress for Less, Bath & Borders, T J Max, the Dollar Tree was a real good shop to shop at. Kallispell is just about out to Whitefish, it has really grown. There is a new quilt shop called Glacier Quilts, but it was closed on Sunday when we found it, and we left on Monday morning before it opened, so I didn't get into there. Just as well, I spent well over my limit anyway.

Coming home yesterday, we stopped at Lil's Casino at Euricka cause Paula spotted Jeannie & Gerd's car there. They go down from Cranbrook about 3 times a month and gamble. That wouldn't be my favorite past time, but they enjoy it. So we visited for a while before we hit the border. When we got to Roosville there were 35 cars ahead of us, but the line up went fast. They asked us a few questions and said have a nice day. Then we stopped in Fernie for lunch and then stopped at Garry's Aunt Gail's house for a few minutes. They are renovating their house, so Paula went in to see their new house. Then back on the road again to come home. We made it home by 4:45 pm. The roads were good but the traffic was constant all the way home.

All in all we enjoyed ourselves. Our family all missed us dearly, but it was a nice retreat for us.
We shall have to do it again soon.

Let's hear what you all did for the weekend -----------------????

Jill's testimony

In case any of you don't have access to Jill's blog, I wanted everyone to read what she said a day or so ago. I am so proud that she has such a good understanding and sweet testimony at such a young age.
A proud grandma
LA

So, today at swim club i said hi to Carson's sister.(Carson is a little boy i know from swim club) then I saw Spencer Hudson from church. Carson's sister came over and asked me how i knew him. i said, "from church""are you Mormon?""ya""do you like being Mormon?""ya""Why?"i understand why Jadean from my home school doesn't like being put on the spot! right then i couldn't think of a great answer so i said,"because its awesome."then mom pulled up so i left. later i started thinking.why do i like being a latter day saint?this is my answer-this just makes me happy. When ever i read about the prophets in the magazines i just know he is living prophet of god.i like that the church wont make investigators believe. the church will encourage you not force you. i like that everyone in the church is like one big family. I like the feeling that i get after a great lesson. i like writing talks. If you want to know more please let me know and it would rule if i got a bunch of comments on this post.

Nana

I've been thinking about these questions. I don't have answers for all of them (will have to do some thinking and come back and edit later!). But I thought I'd add the thoughts that come to my mind right away:

1. What is your funniest memory of Mom?
I don't know about funniest....but I have a lot of fun memories. I loved going to the ranch and riding the horse with Nana. Sometimes she'd let me ride the horse in the corral while they milked the cows. I loved it and would have been happy to ride forever I think....even just in the corral.
I'd have to say the nose blowing was pretty funny and rather memorable.
I remember also going to visit Nana with Allen. She had made popcorn and was sitting and eating it. She didn't want to get her hands greasy so she ate it with a spoon. She'd stick her tongue out and catch a popcorn kernel on her tongue. We laughed and laughed with her. She looked like a lizard catching flies. :0)

2. What lesson that she taught you stands out?
Well, of course the value of keeping a clean house stands out first. I often think of Nana when I see my sink full of dishes at the end of the day. Sometimes I just do them because I know she'd think I should (and sometimes I don't....but that's okay I guess). :0)
I also remember her telling me how important it was to not be wasteful. I remember how she could use a spatula to get a bowl totally clean. She told me that a wife can throw more out a window with a teaspoon than her husband can bring in the front door with a wheelbarrow.
Then there is the issue of home made bread. When Nana moved into the apartment in Lethbridge we were visiting one day and she offered me her Bosche mixer. I really cherish that mixer!

3. What is your favorite characteristic or personality trait about Mom?
I admired her for making a beautiful home. She was never one to sit around and let her house be a mess. She didn't seem to begrudge cleaning or homemaking, she just did it and did it well. These days a lot of people look down on that kind of work and I appreciate that she was an example of a good attitude about homemaking.

4. What do you see in yourself that came from her, physically or in your personality?
Did she have grey hair early? I sure do! I wonder who I got that from. lol

5. List as many things as possible that she has done for you.
Oh boy.....that's a list that I hardly know where to start on!

Dawn

Christopher James Stewart

What to say about my little boy. He as a cute nick name now.
it's little man tat. Christopher is my darling little friend.
He helps me do lots of fun things around the house.
He loves to clean and he loves when I play wii with him.
My little boy is now six years old. And I know I am really
going to miss having him around the house.
He makes me laugh, and giggle all day.
His fave Question is " Know what"?
And you never know what he going to explain to you next.
I always let him win at xbox. Make him feel good that he can
beat mom at least. But, I do win now and then just because.
From the time he is awake, he just makes my days.

Paula.

MOTHER

1. What is your funniest memory of Mom?

My funniest memory of Mom is her blowing her nose. She distrinctly had a one and only nose blowing. I will never forgot the time Jeff Pickles and L.A. were trying out his new tape recorder and we were all taking turns recording our voices on tape, something that was new to all of us. Then in the background of the tape you can hear whhhhhhhhhheeeeeewwwwwww - Mother blowing her nose. It was so funny. We played it over and over again, and laughed and laughed. Mother always had a sense of humor and taught us all how to laugh at things. I have laughed at times until I lose my breathe or wet my pants. Mother taught me how to laugh and have fun.

2. What lesson that she taught you stands out?

The one lesson that stands out is how to be responsible and do what you have to do. How not to play your sick. I used to be just a little bit sick with a cold or something, and say I didn't want to go to school that day. So Mom would say then you better stay home. Then as soon as the school bus had gone past our drive way where we caught the bus, all of a sudden I felt better again and would want to play. Mother would say "OK if you are feeling so good, we will clean out the cupboards, the closets, wash the floors and do a lot of work" Boy the next morning you were ready to catch that school bus on time and get to school. This taught me the loyalty to work hard and get done what you want to do. No sluffing off your duties or you would get twice as much work to do.

3. What is your favorite characteristic or personality trait about Mom? Mom was a very hard worker, she could work just as hard as any man. She was a good cook and always provided the family with three meals every day. I have been reading lately on how it is advantageous for a family to sit around the table as a family to eat your meals. Mother always insisted that we sit around the table and for breakfast we would always kneel by the our chair and have family prayer, and then get set up to the table and say the blessing on the food before we ate one bite of us meal. Mother was a great example for all of us to learn how to work, clean house and you always had to check the corners for dirt. She used to say that her Aunt Lyndy Gough said a house was not clean until the corners were clean. After visiting Holland and seeing the cleanliness in the country, I know why Mother was like she was. She would not go to bed at night with a dirty spoon in the sink. Her kitchen was always clean and tidy. Her ironing was starched and prim and properly creased. Even Daddy's hankies were ironed before putting them carefully in his drawer for use. Our bras and panties were ironed and starched too. Her laundry was even done by hand on a scrubbing board and the white socks especially were prewashed with Sunlight bar soap to keep them prestinely white. Mother was a clean freakbut she taught us girls how to do the same and pass it on to our daughters and sons.

4. What do you see in yourself that came from her, physically or in your personality?

Well one thing for sure is that I have hers and Grandma Sadie's feet. I also have the same look as mom in my face. Sometimes when I look at myself in the mirror, I have to take a second look, especially when I get my hair permed in a curly perm. I think I look just like her. Personality wise I like to think that I am a jovial person. I surely like to laugh and have fun, especially when my family gets together. I love to talk and visit with family. I miss seeing everybody on a regular basis.

5. List as many things as possible that she has done for you.

She has taught me how to be a better person. She taught me manners. She taught me a sense of pride in dressing. (She used to line us girls up at the cupboard before going to church, and check how we were dresses, were we clean? were we ready for church.) Always she would ask if I had my petticoat on, and I would say no, and she would say get in that bedroom and get one on before you leave this house. She taught me a sense of pride in how I look - my hair, my dress, how to have good posture and carry myself like I was proud of myself. She taught me how to be thrifty with my money. Being frugile doesn't hurt anyone, except yourself if you are not. She taught me to always pay my bills. Other than my monthly master card I do not owe anything. I have had hardships in keeping up with the bills, but I have had to adjust my life to keep it that way. That is why I got roomers and boarders to live with me, and help me pay the monthly obligations that I had to do. It has not been an easy time having other people in my house, but I have had to be harsh and make it work for me. Mother taught me how to make do with what you have. She has taught me how to make bread. I always think of Mom when I make bread. I have decided it takes experience to make it. If you don't keep up the skill you lose it, cause the last couple of times I have made buns or cinnamon buns, they really didn't turn out, because I just don't do it enough anymore. Another thing mother taught me was to sew and quilt. She did love to sew for us girls and she quilted many many quilts in her days with the Relief Society ladies and at home for her grnadkids and her daughters. I think she made everyone of them a quilt before she left this world.

So Yes as I think of Mothers Day tomoorow I will be remembering our Mother who can now rest in peace, knowing that she did her work on earth and passed it on to her girls, and grandchildren, her principles and her teachings both.

I received a card from Paula and Garry and Ashley and Christoper. It says:

For a FULL -of-Fun Grandma

Grandma
When we get together
it seems like
we're always laughing
And somehow you've got
all the time in the world
when it comes
to having a good time
with us.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Mother's in the Family.

Shirley

Happy Mother's Day

Tomorrow is Mother's Day and I have been thinking about my mother. Most of my grandchildren had very little or no opportunity to know her and only have what we tell them to let them know what kind of person their great grandmother was. I would like them to know more. I am sure most of you feel the same. So I thought it would be fun to have everyone answer some very short and interesting questions about her. Just answer the following questions and I will compile them in a book about her.

1. What is your funniest memory of Mom?
2. What lesson that she taught you stands out?
3. What is your favorite characteristic or personality trait about Mom?
4. What do you see in yourself that came from her, physically or in your personality?
5. List as many things as possible that she has done for you.

I think it is a great way to remember Mom on this important day.
And to all the mothers in the family HAVE A WONDERFUL MOTHER'S DAY.
Love from,

Happy Birthday, Marvelle

Last night we went to Cardston to see Marvelle and to take her a little birthday gift and house warming gift. They took us to see their house. It is just about ready for them to move in. They have worked hard on choosing colors, appliances etc. and they have done a good job. They always do.

When giving a tribute to Marvelle for her birthday there isn't much I can add to the good job Shirley did, except, I agree with all of that. I too have looked up to her as a big sister and example. I have witnessed her love and fierce sense of family. She has weathered well some pretty daunting experiences and her method of coping has taught me so much. Last night I gave her a little book about sisters. On one page it suggested I list some of her qualities I admire and try to duplicate. I listed: 1. Her work ethic and drive to succeed. 2. Her love of and devotion to family. 3. Her sense of style.

These are just a few of her many qualities I admire and why I love her.

Have a great day today, Marvelle. You have earned it.

Love

#63 NOBLE NEWS - Marvelle Reporter

Hi - I've spent the last hour reading the family blog. I've been off of it for a few weeks since I moved to Cardston. I still haven't got my own computer up and running but I'm using Meryl's while we wait for our house. We have been up here for two weeks now and hopefully we will be in our own house next week. Not that Meryl and Art haven't been great but I want to be in my own house now.

We went to Calgary the other night for Shelbi's play. It was great! She was a Barbie Doll. We had a wonderful time. We bought (or her Dad Bought and we paid) for an Ipod for her birthday and then for Dustyn's birthday we gave him a GPS system for when he goes to Houston. He is working for Ryan this year, selling and I hope he does good. It's all in the numbers you call on and I hope Dustyn does well. If he is related to Brad he'll do okay.

Then the tribute Shirley gave me for my birthday. It made me blush but I loved it.

We are selling our place in Arizona because I just can't got as often as I used to. We are keeping some of it for us and selling the rest.

Hope this finds you all well. I'll bet you are busy Heidi. Keep up the good work and I hope to see you all down in Cardston. We have an extra bedroom.

Happy Birthday to Christopher

What can I say about Christopher??? He is the BEST grandson anyone could ask for. He is a real BOY let me tell you. But yet he is they nicest little boy if he wants to be. I shall always remember the day he was going to Kindergarten and he was dressed waiting at the door, with his shoes on, sitting on the bench at the front door of their house. He was waiting for Ashley to get ready to go to school. He sat there and said, "Sister, come on, don't make me late for school".
Just the way he said it was sooooooooo cute. He really loves his sister, and he will always protect her. There are times when they two of them fight like cats and dogs, but they do love each other also.

Christopher is a great player on the X Box. The students that lived with Paula and Garry taught him how to play games on the X Box and he can really even beat his dad at the games. It is so funny when he gets himself in a bind, and he wants Daddy to help him out of the corners or something, he gets so upset cause he knows he is better than Garry at the games.

Christopher can hardly wait till his birthday so he can be SIX YEARS OLD and go to school for the whole day next year with Ashley and get to take his lunch to school. Christopher loves school and always has from the time he entered playschool. His teacher this year, says she has to push him out the door when the kids go home at noon. Christopher doesn't want to go home at noon time. He really likes his teacher, Mrs. Whitehead, and she likes him. He is learning lots of new things in kindergarten and will use those lessons for the rest of his life. One can just see his thirst for knowledge. He is trying hard to keep up with big sister, Ashley.

I have taught Christopher to say that I am the greatest Grandma in the whole wide wide world and he believes me. But then, I am his only Grandma in the world so I am the Best Grandma. I am his only Grandma, because his other grandma is called Oma and she is the Best Oma too.

I have the cutest picture of Christopher smelling my roses in my bridal bouqet at my wedding. It is soooooo cute. We all need to take a lesson from him and stop and smell the roses just a little more in our lives. Christopher I love you kiddo.

You have the Best Birthday ever and when your SIX years old you can go to school all day long.

Love
Grandma Shirley

Happy Birthday to Marvelle

What can I say about Marvelle?? She has been our big sister for many many moons. She is the best role model for the whole family. I have always looked up to Marvelle because she is my big sister and whatever she says is the gospel truth. Even when she told me as a little child (about 5 years old - I think) to go out on the end of the plank and sit on the end of it, while she sawed off the plank. Maybe some of you don't know this story. Daddy took Marvelle, L.A. and the little sister, Shirley out to the north pasteur to build a lean too shed for the cattle to shelter during the cold. He had us all help build the shelter with no power tools. All the tools we used were hand tools, as there was no electricity at the pasteur. We constructed a three sided shed and built a lean too roof over the shelter. Dad was using scrape planks about 10 - 12 feet long to build the roof. Some of the planks were of various lengths, so he told Marvelle to get the hand saw and saw them all off to an even length. So Marvelle always did as Daddy told her to do, just like all of us would do. She got the saw and started to saw off one of the planks. It was quite heavy and it was binding against the saw, which made it very hard to saw. So she decided if she asked Shirley to sit out on the end of the plank then it would saw easier. So being the great helper I was, I went out at the end of the plank and sat on the board. She continued to saw the board off and CRRRASHH!!!! down I went falling off the board as it was cut. I must have fell at least 6 feet down to the solid ground below. I don't remember where Daddy was, but he didn't know what was going on. Well I hit the ground with one heck of a bang and let out one whooping cry. Daddy come running to see what was going on. I was crying and Marvelle got a licken with the saw. We have laughed about this ever since about Shirley falling off the roof of the shed, all the while I just thought I was being a big girl helping out my sisters.

I will always remember Marvelle babysitting Lester Ann and I one New Year's eve. Mom and Dad had gone out to a dance at the Church. At the stroke of midnight, she had the two of us looking out the window to the dark skies above -- watching for the old man going out and the New Years' Eve baby coming in. She said at the stoke of midnight, "See -- look up there -- there goes the old man and look over there -- do you see the new Baby coming in???" Lester Ann and I both, said, "Yeahhhhhhhhhhh look at the old man going, and the new baby coming.........!!!" We would believe anything Marvelle said, it was the gospel truth for sure.

Marvelle has been a role model by marrying the man of her dreams and showing us girls how it was done. Marvelle was honored by her collegues in Lethbridge when she obtained the title of "Mrs. Lethbridge" nominated by her peers at work and the proffessional women of Lethbridge.
She has always treated the staff who have worked for her with dignity and respect. If one did not keep up with the ship mates, then one must ship out. Marvelle has been a dignified business woman in the field of insurance. She has provided for her family by having them all work for her at one time or another. She even had an office for Ralphee, and Opra with their disignated offiice doors with their names on the door. Brad, Scott and Nickee all learned how to work for Marvelle and were taught good work ethics from the beginning of life. Marvelle's children have all been successful because of their mother. They can all be proud of the best Mother.

Marvelle has been unfortunate to lose two of her children and yet her faith in the Lord leads her onward to bigger and better missions in her life. She has served two missions in the wonderful country of Ghana. My trip to Ghana by myself, to a land I knew nothing about and where I was going was the trip of my life. To get off the Dutch airline plane out on the tarmack of the airport, board a bus to get to the airport, get through Customs and Immigrations, and get out of the airport and meet Marvelle and Clifford was hair raising. When I came down the ramp outside the airport doors, I heard Marvelle yell "There she is........... Shirleeeeey" and she was waving her hands at me. I was in tears to be welcomed into their arms. Then to be shown the country of Ghana for two weeks was breathless. The time seemed like only minutes that I had been there, when I had to leave again. Marvelle took me to neighbouring villages, up to Volta Dam, across the Volta River and back again. When the policeman stopped us at the end of the bridge, and that Policeman jumped up from underneath the banyon tree, I thought we were done for. He stopped us and asked us where we were from and what we were doing there. We told him we were from Canada and we were just out touring around. He promptly told me to take my video camera and erase it and prove to him that I had erased it. He was a police and I should have have filmed him. I thought my heart was going to pound out of chest. I didn't even realize I had him on the film. He could have shot us both right then and there. I was shaking so hard, I could hardly erase the tape in the camera. But I showed him where I had erased it and he let us go. We both said a little prayer of thanks for our lives that day. Marvelle introduced me to all the members of the church in their village of Kofforigua. (Not sure if I spelled that right). They all loved me because they all loved Marvelle and Clifford bringing the gospel to them in their land. Marvelle and Clifford taught the gospel to many and they will all be thankful to Marvelle and Clifford for those teachings. The Lord blessed them both for being missionaries and teachers of the gospel to the Africans. After visiting Ghana, I had a real appreciation for the people there and for Marvelle and Clifford, being in my life.

I have lived with Marvelle and she always instilled good morals and work ethics in me. I lived with Marvelle and Clifford in Cardston when they had three small children. She took me under her wing and put up with me many times. Then when they moved to Foremost, Clifford informed me of the Payroll clerk job at the County of Forty Mile and again, I lived with Marvelle and Clifford and their little family and again she put up with my chinanigans of dating and boys.

Marvelle has always been a listening ear when I needed a shoulder to lean on, she was there for me. She, like all of my sisters, were there for me when I decided to divorce Gordon. Their support was unsurpassible during the three years it took for my divorce to become final. Many times I would just have to call my big sister, and she was there to listen to me and give me advice that I needed to hear. I thank her for coming to my rescue and meeting with my lawyer when I needed support from her and the rest of my sisters. Like Gayle said in his toast to the bride at my wedding -- one does not want to reckon with a Hyde Girl, or they will have all four of them to answer to. We are the HYDE GIRLS and our daddy taught us so.

May you have the best BIRTHDAY ever!!! We wish you the Happiest Birthday, and may you have many more to come. I love you dearly, big Sis!!!

Happy Birthday Shelby!

Facebook just told me....it's Shelby's birthday tomorrow.

Remember when Shelby was such a cute little girl? Well, she's still cute - but when she was little she was the cutest. Allen used to call her honka-poney. She loved Pochahontas and hated him messing up her name.

Happy Birthday Honka-Poney!!

Spring Tea

Our Spring Tea....

Each year the school puts on a tea as a fund raiser.  It was very exciting this year as it was the gr 7 class that always serves at it and this year was Taylor's turn.  It was fun to watch all the kids getting tea and juice for everyone and making sure that everyone was happy.  I think they all did a great job.
This picture is Taylor and her friend Kaitlyn.  They had a great time working together.

Getting more plates of sandwiches for people!

And of course Syd and Hanna....where there is on there is the other.

Syd enjoying her lunch....it was a HUGE plate of food.  And very tasty sandwiches and treats...
The juice however needed a bit more juice....if you know what I mean.

And of course Granny Jean was there for tea too.
