Life At the Ackroyds

Last weekend we went to Edmonton for Allen's youngest brother's wedding. It was a great day. I can't really say that everything went off without a hitch - but there were no great tragedies and we had a wonderful time visiting with relatives and celebrating David and Crystal. They were married at the Bonnydoon (sp?) chapel in Edmonton. We went afterwards and took pictures at the legislature. There is a big wading pool there and there were tons of people swimming in there - just about made Peirce crazy. I told him he could roll up his pants and walk in the water...but I could see that it was only a matter of time before he was right in there - so I let him know that it's okay for little boys to take quick swims in their underwear - so he did, and loved it. We looked pretty funny walking back to the car. Allen was in his black suit, I'm in my black dress (did we mention the wedding was all black and white?), and Jill is in her ultra fancy white dress....and we're holding the hand of a little boy in wet gonch. Such is life!
I'd post some pictures but I don't have my camera right now. Yesterday my kids decided to take my digital camera to the park to take some pictures. They asked permission to do it. My mistake was I didn't check on the camera when they returned. I needed it today and couldn't find it. Jill swore she brought it home and put it on my desk. We've looked high and low. Finally Allen came home for lunch. On his way back to the office he went by the park and found a sign taped to the bench that said someone had found a digital cameraand to call to claim it.My blood pressure is still a little high.....but I think I will letthem live. Earlier I had told them that they couldn't watch TV or play on the computer until it was found - even if took until they were 12. Peirce, who is 5, said, "Is that after I get baptized?" Jill responded that it was way after. He flopped on the floor and said, "Oh no!! I'll probably be DEAD by then!"
Kids!!!
Edit: Camera has been found!! Here are some pictures from the wedding
Zane and Claire walking in. They were to spread petals - only I think Zane forgot and was holding on to Claire's hand for dear life...and Claire couldn't figure out how to hold the basket and spread the petals.....oh the details!
Joel coming in with Jeremy. Jeremy is 6 months old and was in a wagon. He had the rings (very brave of everyone if you ask me!)
The bride!! Also now known as Auntie Crystal
Peirce and one of his favorite cousins, Claire.

This is Jill, Maren Christensen, Soleil Letournea, Zoe Letourneau, Zan Letourneau and Peirce at the wedding. We're missing a few cousins that were there (the littlest girls, Maren and Anna, as well as the rest of the boys, Joel, Jeremy and Samuel) The battery on my camera was low that day so I was kind of stingy with pictures and planned to go get a new battery...but we never did get around to getting on...no time!

Summer

Well, summer is moving along nicely. After coming home from Raymond Jill and Peirce were really happy to be at home and have some quiet time. I have discovered that if I sleep 10 hours a night then I can avoid throwing up. Works like magic. I sometimes even have a bit of a lie down during the day. Personally, it's not easy for me to sleep that much. I quite relish the time alone when my kids are in bed - but I also prefer not to feel too nasty - and it's nice to have discovered that little trick. It's just not to easy to learn how to simplify and cut back on things in life!

This is our Christopher James Stewart and his T-Ball team. He really enjoyed himself playing with his team mates. His favorite position was back catcher. He actually received a metal at the end of the season, with all his team mates. Doesn't he look just like Garry???

Welcome to Blogging Land!

I am glad to see some of you are catching on how to use this blog!

To answer your question Aunt Shirley - it doesn't cost anything. We can post pictures and write news...just like on the other site...and comments can be neatly packaged with each blog (just click on the link at the bottom of the post). I figured it would work just as well. The only thing I figure it missing is the calender function....but I'll work on that and see if we can't figure out some way to have that info on here too. There must be a way.

We're doing well in the Ackroyd house....other than trying not to melt life is pretty simple. I think that since I'm pregnant I feel extra hot....cause the hot weather sure feels hotter than I think it should. We spent a little more than a week in Raymond. We stayed with Allen's sister, Carmen, and she has air conditioning. I'm thinking I should go back there! :0)

Our kids have enjoyed being home. I have too. I have decided I'm a real home-body. I wouldn't mind sending Allen to buy the groceries, or do other errands...and I just stay at home, perfectly content. Doesn't seem to quite work that way though.

Jill and Peirce are really enjoying playing together and having some lazy days. It's interesting to me how people say you should have your kids close together so that they can be good friends - I'd found Jill and Peirce really enjoy playing together despite their difference in age. It's nice to see.

Peirce has a goal this summer to learn to read. I think he's ready for it. He knows all the letters and sounds and can tell you what words start with. I just need to quit being lazy and help the poor kid along with the next steps. He told me that he wished he could read because he sees Jill spending a lot of time reading and wishes he could do that too. He says looking at the pictures isn't as interesting. Funny boy.

Hope everyone else's summer is going well. If you have questions about how to use this site send me an email. I'll be happy to help you out! (dackroyd@telus.net)

#1. Marvelle (July 13th, 2007)

Thanks Dawn for changing our web site. We all owe you.

We are fine. We go golfing every morning. On Monday,Wednesdays and Fridays, Clifford goes to the exercise room.

We are busy shopping for the stuff that is to go in our house.

We are having a good time and going on holidays on Sunday. We are going to the Hough Reunion in Utah at Bryan's place and then we are going to Baha, Mexico with Nickee who has rented a beach house in a gated community right on the ocean. Then we are going to Arizona where Floyd Smith has been ill. He had a Thyroid condition which made his thyroid swell up to five times it's size. He had that operated on and removed. 6 1/2 hour operation. Now they have found he has a cyst on his uthreathia tube and it the ureathia tube has wrapped around the cyst. He is still taking tests. We talked to him last night and he said he was in a great amount of pain.

So Clifford is going to go see him.

We are having lunch with Ken Todd today who used to work for us.

Hi thought I would just post on this blog my description of Scott's death. It is still hard but we are happy that he is home - at last.
#40. Jun 30th, 2007

Before I leave this blog I want to tell you all how very short life can be. I remember Scott as a baby. I think every mother thinks of her child when they were little. He was such a sweet baby. Fat little arms and legs. Then he grew up. You can't make them do what you want them to do when they grow up. I loved him just as I love my other children. I guess I always will. Be careful of what you do. Scott abused his body but was still a wonderful person of whom I was very proud. I am also proud of my other children too and my grandchildren.I wanted to leave my news until last and so I will tell you now. Clifford has decided we are moving back to Cardston. The old ties of home are pulling him back to his roots and I want to go with him. We are selling our place here and going to Cardston and buying a condo there. They are brand new and will be ready in about 4 months - the person who is selling and building them says anyway. We are building up near the Rodeo Grounds, Golf Course in Cardston. They are very nice. Two of my children live in Cardston and so I'm going to be close to them. They are Kelly LaRee Noble (died in 1965) and Scott Charles Noble who died just this month.Hope this finds you all well. Much love and affection to you all who have been so kind in our hour of need.love Marvelle

#39. June 39th, 2007

Dear All,As you can see I haven't written since June 8th, 2007. I didn't write for the next two days and because I was working on photos that I want to give out at Christmas. I was sitting at the table when my world, as I knew it, came crashing down on me. The phone rang. Clifford answered it and at first I was paying no attention but my head snapped up when he said "Nickee you've got to stop crying so you can tell me what's wrong". My first thought was 'someone has been in an accident' - thinking it was either Cam or one of the kids. But then I learned she was at Scott's house and he had been found dead.I was in shock. The first thing I thought of was suicide but I didn't think Scott would leave without saying 'goodbye' to me (even if he didn't tell me what he planned to do). Nickee was sitting out in Scott's driveway. The paramedics were inside working on Soctt and then they called the coroner. The coroner said it wasn't suicide as Scott's dinner or supper was still on the cupboard all ready for cooking. Vegtables (for a salad) were in the sink waiting to be washed. The coroner and Doctor said each had counted the pills in the medicine cabinet and they (the pills) were all there. Nickee had to wait in her car until they had finished their investigation. I was s9ck to my stomach. After they were finished the doctor told Nickee that it was either a heart attack or an anurism. What a mess. Nickee was crying for her 'Daddy to come right away'. We got a flight on Wednesday and flew down. Nickee also said to the Doctor "well can't I at least see him?" So Nickee identified the body as her brother. She said he was blue. Lying there on top of his bed like he was going to lay down for a nap. The TV going. (He always took long Sunday naps). He died Sunday - June 10th, 2007 sometime between 1:pm and 4:00pm.We took Brad with us. He was upset too. We had a funeral in Las Vegas in Nickee's ward and then flew the body back to Canada to be buried in the Cardston Family Plot. It was all very nice but a blur to all of us. We had a graveside service in Cardston and the funeral was held in Vegas. Alot of people came.

We are happy we have friends and our beloved family.

Hyde House in Raymond

This is how the house looked in the early 40's. Note our modern mode of transportation in the far left of the photo.
